Breaking: Senators Accuse Victor Umeh of plagiarism
Umeh is the newest member of the Senate
It was mild drama on Senate on Wednesday as the Senators accused newly sworn-in Anambra Central Senator, Victor Umeh of Plagiarism.
Senator Umeh had moved a motion on the floor of the Senate titled,” the urgent need to include the Eastern Rail Lines in the Nigerian Railway Development Project. ”
But, in supporting the motion, Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan and Senator James Manager accused the former All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) chairman accused of plagiarizing Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe motion.
They argued that the issue had already been discussed by Upper legislative chamber through a similar motion that was sponsored by Abaribe.
After the lawmakers accused Umeh of plagiarism all the prayers in the motion were approved by the Senate.
Senate resolved to call on the federal Government to restore services on the Eastern rail lines which is currently out of use.
The Upper chamber also called on the Federal Government to include the Eastern and North West rail lines in its on going railway standardization programme and reflect same in 2018 appropriation Bill for implementation.
In addition, Senate urged the Federal Government to include the Eastern rail lines of the Nigerian Railways as one of the beneficiaries of $6.8 billion dollars loan approved towards the standardization and modernization of the Nigerian Railways.
Leading debate on the motion, Senator Umeh noted that inclusiveness is the essence of governance in a democracy which is further buttressed by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which categorically states in Section 15 Sub-sections 3(a) and 4.
He lamented that the Eastern Narrow Rail Lines of the Nigerian Railways (originating from Port-Harcourt going through South-East to the Northern parts of Nigeria) are now in a deplorable condition notwithstanding the Federal Government’s rekindled determination to resuscitate the nation’s Rail Transport System.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the neglect of Eastern Rail lines despite Federal Government’s current Railway Modernization Project has excluded the Eastern Rail Lines.
