BREAKING: Sidiki Diakite, Ivorian Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation is dead
Sidiki Diakite, Ivorian Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation has died on Friday from reported heart attack.
He was to have overseen the country’s contentious presidential election coming up on 31st October.
The vote, which opposition candidates have called on supporters to boycott because of President Alassane Ouattara’s 3rd term agenda has resulted in violent protests and deaths.
Ouattara had said last March he would not run for a third term but changed his mind after the sudden death of his party’s anointed candidate.
Diakité held various senior positions in Côte d’Ivoire. In 2012, he was appointed Prefect of Abidjan, and later Minister of Interior and Security in 2017.
He was appointed Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, in September 2019 until his death on Friday.
He also played an important role in the political dialogue between political parties and the Government.
His last official function was a meeting on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s Office.
