President Muhamamdu Buhari’s appointment of Dr. Hameed Bobboyi as the chief executive of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, a parastatal under the Ministry of Education is raising eyebrows.
President Buhari on Monday sacked 17 Chief Executives of Parastatals and Agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education and approved the appointment of replacements with immediate effect.
I am concerned with president Buhari’s choice of Hamid Bobboyi as UBEC executive secretary.
His background check reveals that for the last 12 years, Boboyi has traveled to different countries and Islamic organizations giving lectures on how to spread Islam to all corners of Nigeria.
The Secretary-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Prof Ishaq Oloyede has also been named Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB
During Nigeria last presidential campaign, many Nigerians expressed concern that a President Muhammadu Buhari will Islamize the country.
I didn’t believe such campaign and called it election gimmicks.
However, a background report of someone he appointed to head Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) seems to justify their fears.
See Contemporary Relevance of the Sokoto Caliphate: Rule of Law, Federalism and Conflict Resolution’, in Hamid Boboyi and Alhaji Mahmud Yakubu, The Sokoto Caliphate: History and Legacies, 1804-2004, Vol. II, Arewa House: Kaduna, 2006, 242-250 – among many of his published works.
According to Ibrahim Bunu:
“President Muhammadu Buhari sacked 17 Chief Executives of Parastatals and Agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education and approved the appointment of replacements immediately.
“While as usual, more key agencies went to the North, I am concerned with president Buhari’s choice of Hamid Bobboyi as UBEC executive secretary.
“We are talking about someone who for the last 12 years have gone to different countries and Islamic organisations talking about how to spread Islam to all corners of Nigeria.
“Hamid is a typical Islamic bigot and should not head a sensitive National educational agency like UBEC which is the body in charge of primary education in Nigeria.
“I fear this particular appointment of Hamid Bobboyi as UBEC executive secretary have an ulterior motive”.
The Federal Government also announced the sacking of the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, Prof Dibu Ojerinde.
He was replaced by the Secretary-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Prof Ishaq Oloyede.
Christian elders and a coalition of over 14 Christian groups in Nigeria have accused President Muhammadu Buhari administration of scheming to turn the country to an Islamic State “through the backdoor”, saying such action contravenes Nigeria’s Constitution.
The spokesperson of the coalition and National President of National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF), Mr. Solomon Asemota (SAN), Prelate of Methodist Church/Head of Christian Council of Nigeria bloc in Christian Association of Nigeria, Emmanuel Udofia, and Leader of Christian Professionals Forum (CPF) Prof. (Bishop) Funmi Adesanya-Davies, made the allegation yesterday in Abuja at a press conference held in Abuja two months ago.
In February this year, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose Governor Nyesom accused President Muhammadu Buhari of mapping ways towards making Nigeria an Islamic nation.
Fayose made the allegations while delivering a speech at the inter–denominational thanksgiving held in Port-Harcourt to celebrate the victory of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike after the supreme court ruling.
