Buhari’s anti-corruption fight is witch-hunt, charade – group

“We frown at any attempt to have two different type of justice, one for the members of the opposition parties and the other for the members of the ruling party.”

The continuous detention of Chief Olisa Metuh by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) without charging him to a court of competent jurisdiction and the continuous incarceration of Col. Sambo Dasuki despite several bails granted by competent courts are clear confirmation of witch-hunt and clampdown on opposition leaders by the APC government of President Buhari.

It is the height of selective justice for Mr. Metuh to be kept in detention for several days without been released or charged to court but Brig. Gen. Jafaru Isa, a close associate of the president, was arrested on a similar allegation only to be released 8 hours later after the acting chairman of EFCC Ibrahim Magu’s visit to the President, where he was ordered to do so.

The conduct of President Buhari, the EFCC and the DSS in the so called fight against corruption is an embarrassment to our democracy and nation. The anti-corruption crusade is a charade, because it negates all known principles of justice and democracy.

A situation where people are detained and denied access to their lawyers and family members but only for the government and it’s Gestapo like outfits to consistently castigate them in the media without fair hearing is certainly an attempt to give a dog a bad name in other to hang it, it is an aberration and condemnable in all ramifications.

This is a calculated attempt by the Buhari administration to silence and gag the opposition in the face of the poor leadership capabilities and ineptitude that has become the hallmark of the administration.

The APC administration is no doubt afraid of the rising profile of the PDP and indeed terrified by the level of renewed support the PDP is currently enjoying from the Nigerian populace.

In a bid to thwart this, the ruling government of the day is now engaging in threat, blackmail, intimidation, harassment and persecution of opposition leaders or anyone who dare to raise his voice against its obnoxious style of leadership, since it has become obvious that they lack anything meaningful to offer.

It is shameful and disgraceful that despite the numerous petitions against the leaders of the APC written to the EFCC and President Buhari, the EFCC has refused to invite them for questioning; rather they are rewarded with cabinet appointments.

The behavior of the President has further exposed his penchant for impunity, the abuse of the rule of law and due process.

Nigerians must be at alert, rise up and speak for the adherence to the rule of law, because it is apparent that our nation is fast drifting towards dictatorship, tyranny and economic abyss.

The acclaimed body language of the President has turn to body odour, because the president is bereft of economic ideas that can propel our nation into economic prosperity.

We must all wake up and do something to checkmate this odour before it choke us to death and retard our national growth.

We call for the immediate release of Chief Olisa Metuh and Col. Sambo Dasuki or their fair trial in a court of competent jurisdiction. We strongly condemn the abuse of their fundamental human rights.

We are not in any way against the fight against corruption in our nation, but it must be done with all sense of justice, fairness, equity and strict adherence to the rule of law, irrespective of political party, religion or ethnicity.

We frown at any attempt to have two different type of justice, one for the members of the opposition parties and the other for the members of the ruling party.
