Chinese Embassy Opens Up On Whereabouts Of Missing Medics In Nigeria

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has opened up on the whereabouts of “missing” medics in Nigeria.

Recall that a 15-man medical team arrived Nigeria last month to help Nigerian authorities to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic ravaging Nigeria and the world at large.

In an interview with Vanguard newspaper, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Abuja dismissed claims that the whereabouts of the Chinese medics in Nigeria is unknown.

He said contrary to claims in some quarters that the Chinese doctors are unaccounted for, the medical experts were effective on their duty posts to meet the mandate for which they were brought in.

Sun Saixiong, said: “The Embassy of China is not directly involved in what the medics do on a daily basis but we have always been supportive of our companies to fulfill their social responsibilities in Nigeria and we do appreciate their collaboration with their Nigerian brothers and sisters.

“We are aware also that the medics have completed their quarantine period in a cooperative and respectful manner strictly prescribed by the Nigerian Health authorities and manner to help contain the pandemic in the country.

“We are also aware that the Nigerian Ministry of Health has organised a video conference call and both sides have exchanged their COVID-19 fighting experiences, the result of which we believe should be mutually beneficial.”

The spokesman noted that the medics were brought into Nigeria by one of its leading construction giants, CCECC in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Their mission, he said, is to assist Nigeria in preparing for the containment of the virus and cater for thousands of the company’s workers spread across Nigeria.

In the meantime, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government a 48-hour ultimatum to declare the whereabouts of the Chinese medical team it brought in purportedly to assist in the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in our country.

PDP’s position is predicated on the alarming declaration by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, that he cannot account for the whereabouts of the Chinese team, who were brought into our country from the epicenter of the pandemic, despite repeated warnings and disapprovals by Nigeria’s medical experts and professional bodies.
