Climate change: NEMA advises famers to plant improved seed varieties

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has advised farmers to use improved seed varieties to avoid any challenges as a result of low rainfall forecast for 2021 farming season.

Mr. Midala Anuhu, NEMA Head of Operations, Adamawa, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Thursday.

He said that based on NIMET’s prediction that the rains may cease on Oct. 9, because of climate change, those who planted late may not get yields as expected.

“There is need for the farmers to understand the situation for them to realize good harvest,’’ Anuhu sad.

According to him, the agency will soon commence the sensitisation of the residents on the need to be alert during the rainy season.

He advised people in flood prone areas to be on the alert to avoid loss of lives and property.
