Comrade Segun Olaewe: A Painful Loss – Tribute from NLC


It is with a deep sense of pain and sorrow but with total submission to the will of God that we announce the sudden death of Comrade Segun Olaewe, Assistant Secretary, Administration, Office of the General Secretary.

Comrade Olaewe died suddenly in the early hours of Monday, February 29, 2016.

Words are incapable of expressing the depths of our feelings at the passing on of this fine gentleman.

Olaewe was an exceptional and priceless staff, the institutional memory and engine room of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

His death is a big loss not just to the Nigeria Labour Congress but the entire Labour Movement.

Olaewe was born on March 16, 1959 and had his Primary Education at L.A. Primary School, Iganna from 1965 to 1971 and Secondary Modern School, Iganna from 1973 to 1976, and Iganna High School, 1979 to 1984.

He started his working career as a Class Teacher in 1977.

In 1987, he was employed by the Nigeria Labour Congress and from where he had meritoriously served without break, generations of leadership of the Congress.

Olaewe obtained a National Diploma in Public Administration from the Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa in 2005 and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration from the same institution in 2011.

In the course of his working career, he had attended a couple of training and development courses in Modern Office Administration and Communication Skills Development at the Centre for Public Administration and Management (CPAM), Ikeja, Lagos; Inter-regional Trade Union Training on Decent Work, Sustainable Development and Green Jobs at ITC/ILO, Turin, Italy.

Comrade Segun Olaewe is survived by his wife, Janet, four children and his aged father.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen
