Confusion: Abuja Court Orders INEC To Issue Okorocha Certificate Of Return

There is palpable confusion in the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] as two different courts gave conflicting orders pertaining the Certificate of Return to the former governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

ElombahNews had earlier reported that Okorocha lost his bid to wrestle his Certificate of Return from INEC.

In a judgement issued by the Imo State High Court, the presiding judge, Justice Njemanze ruled that INEC should not depart from their decision not to grant Certificate of Return to him.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja nullified INEC’s decision to withhold the certificate of Okorocha.

The Court in its ruling ordered INEC to issue Certificate of Return to Okorocha with immediate effect.

The Court ruled that the decision of INEC to deprive Okorocha of the certificate falls outside the provisions of the law.

INEC is yet to respond to the varying court rulings and did not respond to call by this medium for clarifications.
