Governors of the North West geo-political region have directed that all schools be closed for the next 30 days.
The Governors gave the directed in a communiqué read to newsmen by Chairman of the Forum and Katsina Governor, Aminu Masari on Wednesday.
The governors took the decision as the case of the virus was reported on Wednesday while they met in Kaduna with heads of security agencies in the zone to review insecurity problems in the region, as well as strategies against banditry.
Governor Masari said the decision became imperative to prevent the spread of Coronavirus [COVID-19] disease across the northwest.
Masari said the closure will take effect from Monday 23rd of March 2020.
The governors also advised the general public to avoid unnecessary gatherings and to maintain good hygiene.
