The Council of Presidents of the Council of Igbo States in Americas (CISA) announces the election of Dr. Edward Nwachi from Ebonyi State as its new President and head of a new leadership to pilot CISA affairs.
CISA Bye-Laws stipulates a 2-year rotational presidency among Igbo Speaking states in alphabetical order. Abia and Anambra have had their turns at the helm and now is Ebonyi’s turn.
The change in leadership is usually ratified by CISA Governing Council at the first Council meeting held in January every two years.
The new administration led by Edward Nwachi was sworn in on January 7, 2016 by Pastor Chinatu Onwuka.
Dr. Edward Nwachi comes very highly recommended. He is a graduate of the University of Benin in Nigeria and the George Washington University Law School in Washington DC.
His professional and public service background includes: President, EON Group International; President, Afikpo Organization Inc. (a charitable organization that promotes Igbo Igbo/Afikpo culture and provides free medical care to 2,000 poor people annually); Board Member, Coalition of African Jurists (a grassroots organization working to improve the justice system across Africa), Founder, EbonyiOnline.com and AfikpoOnline.com (web portals showcasing Ebonyi culture, towns, attractions, businesses and more).
Prior to his election as President, Dr. Nwachi served as the Ebonyi State representative at CISA’s Governing Council.
Dr. Nwachi is committed to working, collaborating and partnering with Ndi Igbo in Diaspora as strategic partners on Igbo advocacy and the advancement of Igbo culture and arts in the Americas and across the globe.
CISA believes in working with any and all organization(s) whose main goal(s) and genuine aspirations are founded on the betterment of Ndi Igbo at home and in Diaspora.
“Our determination and commitment to this cause has never been stronger and so is our support for our new leadership. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our outgoing President Mr. Chudi Asidianya on his accomplishments on behalf of CISA during his two years in office.
“Congratulations to the Council of Igbo States in Americas (CISA) for continuing its long standing practice of smooth transitions without rancor! Congratulations to Dr. Edward Nwachi!
