Court Clears Adeleke For Osun Governorship Election
A High Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has cleared Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the upcoming September 22 governorship election.
The presiding judge, Justice David Oladimeji, gave the ruling on Wednesday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Justice Oladimeji ruled that the plaintiff failed to address the issue of forgery in the originating summons.
He said that before the certificate could be described as forged, the issuer must be called upon to deny the certificate issued to Adeleke .
He said the case “lacks merit” and accordingly dismissed it.
Two PDP members, Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu, had challenged the primary election of the party won by Adeleke.
They claimed that he did not satisfy the constitutional requirements to contest the governorship election.
They also alleged that Adeleke did not submit his secondary school certificate.
Adeleke emerged winner of PDP primary election held on July 21 with 1,569 votes to beat his closest rival, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, who polled 1,562.
