The COVID-19 Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in Nasarawa State says it has taken steps to enhance its response to the pandemic and other measures necessary in tackling future disease outbreaks in the state.
This is contained in a Communiqué issued to newsmen by the centre after its meeting in Lafia on Thursday.
According to the Communiqué which was signed by Dr Ibrahim Alhassan, Chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, members of the EOC have also resolved to intensify sensitization, community engagement involving traditional rulers and increased funding of the response.
This, the document said, was to enhance sustainability as well as complete the optimization of the molecular laboratory at the Infectious Disease and Research Centre, Lafia.
The EOC also stressed the need for government to issue an Executive Order and institute Mobile Courts to enforce compliance with preventive measures, particularly use of face mask and avoiding overcrowding, using community service or monetary fines.
The measures, it said, should also include the prioritization of Home-Based Care for case Management through the General Hospitals and ensuring that logistics support for the focal persons was emphasised.
It also stressed the need for setting up of the State IPC Team, with a Team Leader and an Infection Prevention and Control Committee (IPCC) at the state Ministry of Health, as well as establishment of sick bays in Secondary and Tertiary educational institutions in the state, among others.
The EOC then commended the support provided by Gov. Abdullahi Sule, his Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Task Force on COVID -19.
It also acknowledged the support of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Bank to the COVID-19 response in the state. (NAN)
