Covid-19: Church leaders seek measures against the spread in Anambra, seek government approval for State prayer
As the world continues to wage war against the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, Church leaders in Anambra State under the umbrella of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) have come out in full blast to fire up measures against possible spread of the deadly virus also known as Covid – 19 the State. Currently there is no case of Coronavirus in Anambra State but PFN says they have started implementing all preventive measures as directed by State Government.
Addressing a press conference in Onitsha, the State Chairman of PFN in Anambra Bishop Moses Ezedebego told journalists that following a meeting with the State government on how to prevent the spread of Covid – 19, all Churches under PFN have been mandated to work inline with the directive of the government and they are complying adding that the Christian body have also placed ban on out door crusade.
Bishop Ezedebego said the measures recommended by government which includes providing hand sanitizer in all the Churches, having people sit in distance of three meters during service, fleeting the chairs with insecticide to sanitize them before and after service, taking holy communion with personal cups and banning of handshake and hugging are already being implemented by Churches under PFN in all parts of Anambra State.
He explained that PFN has set up 7man monitoring committee at the State level as well as committees in the 21 Local government areas in the State to monitor the implementation of the measures adding that the State 7man committee is mandated to collaborate with the Local government units to monitor all the Churches in the State.
In addition to implementing the above measures, the PFN boss also said that they have started prayer for God’s intervention to prevent the spread the disease from coming to Anambra State and for God to bring an end to the spread of virus worldwide adding that they embarked on public enlightenment programs in local Radio Stations to draw the attention of the general public on need to accept Jesus Christ and draw closer to God because only God can solve all human predicaments.
He added, “while we take measures to sanitize our hands, avoid hand shake and hugging and all that, we are also in touch with God through prayers and preaching of the gospel for people to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We believe that God is the chief protector and ultimate healer of all diseases including Coronavirus. The Bible says with God all things all things are possible so people should endeavor to come closer to God this time”
While appreciating the efforts being made by the State Government under Governor Willie to prevent the spread of the virus in Anambra, the Bishop appealed to the Governor to approve the PFN to organize State prayer at the government house or elsewhere in Awka the State capital to assemble and pray against the spread of Coronavirus pandemic in Anambra State noting that such prayer is very necessary.
