Covid-19: Nigerians to pay N297,000 to be evacuated

As fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the globe, Nigerians in Thailand who wish to return home are now required to pay a huge amount of 297 thousand Naira to be so evacuated.

The Embassy of Nigeria in Thailand announced this in a memo addressed to all prospective evacuees.

The memo signed by the Head of Chancery, Mr. Nicholas P. Uhomoibhi, on behalf of the Ambassador says the fee will cover the quarantine, isolation, and accommodation fee of the prospective evacuees.

Mr. Uhomoibhi warned in advance that the Embassy will not to airlift any evacuee who fails to pay the indicated fee.

The statement reads in part:

“Due to measures that are beyond the control of the Covid-19 local organizing team in Nigeria, All Evacuees going to Nigeria henceforth are now to pay for their quarantine, isolation, accommodation centre or hotel before departure and arrival in Nigeria.

“In this regard, all prospective evacuees are to note the negotiated rate below:

  • Accommodation: 000 x 16 days = N240,000.00
  • Feeding: 600 x 16 days = N57,600.00
  • Total: 600 x 16 days = N297.600.00

“Kindly be informed that these rates were negotiated in Nigeria and that the Embassy has been instructed not to airlift any evacuee who fails to pay the above fee.”
