Cult War: Five killed in Awka as rival cult gangs clash
Cult related activities in Anambra has reached an apogee as the worst scenarios played out within the last seven days in Awka, Anambra state capital.
Investigation by ElombahNews reveals that a total of five suspected cult members who were said to be within the age of 23 and 30 years were shot dead in Amachalla, Amikwo, Ifite Nkwo-Amenyi road, temp site junction and Udoka Estate.
A resident who lives in one of the affected areas told ElombahNews that on the 7th of November at Nkwo Amaenyi markets, a young man in his mid thirties was shot several times by unknown gunmen who came in keke tricycle.
Earlier, on Friday, it was also gathered that a Malaysia returnee who resides at Udoka estate was shot and confirmed dead.
A source said that the young man that was shot at Udoka estate has been in Malaysia but came back last year. He was planning to return back to his base before the assailants striked.
However, findings shows that more than half of tricycle operators in Awka are cultists. Some of them move around with small bags usually hanged around the waist or chest.
Another resident who simply identified himself as Emeka disclosed that, “All those guys that moves about with little bags, making it part of their dress code, no matter what they wear; fear them. Na gunmen be that”.
Awka in Anambra state is gradually becoming a good rendezvous for cult groups while the state government is doing little or nothing to arrest the situation.
