The Okuta Community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, honoured Nigerian Senator, Dino Melaye with Chieftaincy Award, “The JARMAN of Okuta.
On January 9 2016, the Okuta Community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara state, honoured an illustrious Nigerian Senator, Dino Melaye with Chieftaincy Award, “The JARMAN of Okuta, in an event decked in glamour, elegance and glitz.
The highbrow event attracted the cream of personalities from the world of business, diplomatic service, politics, entertainment and military to the ecstatic community.
The event had the trappings of royalty, as the Legislator pulled who is who in Nigeria and beyond to Okuta community on the day, where he was turbaned for his selfless and humanitarian services, which was that day etched on the burner.
Decked in Pink attire with other accoutrements of royalty, staff of office, a red cap turbaned to match, the JARMAN rode on horse, marched round the palace of the traditional ruler of Okuta community to complete the Chieftaincy rites.
To demonstrate his detribalised personality, the chieftaincy award on Senator Dino Melaye drew the cream of personalities from various parts of the country including the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Sen. Ita Enang, Special Adviser to Mr. President on National Assembly.
The list also includes President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, represented by his Chief of Staff, Isah Galady; Sen. Abiodun Olujimi, Deputy Minority Whip; Sen. Abubakar Kyari, Chairman Committee on INEC; Sen. Kaka, from Borno State; Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim, Chairman Committee on Banking and other financial matters; Sen. Lar, Deputy Chairman Poverty Alleviation Committee; Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi, Chairman NDDC; Sen. Albert Bassey, Chairman Committee on Gas; Sen. Mathew Orogidie, Chairman Committee on Culture and Tourism; Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, Chairman Committee on Ethics and Privileges; Chief Clarence Olafemi, former Deputy Governor of Kogi State.
The Chief of Army Staff represented by Maj. Gen. Austine Edokpayi; Alh. Haddy Ametuo, APC Chairman Kogi State; and Ken Imasuangbon, Gubernatorial Aspirant, Edo State, was also there.

The Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Sero Abubakar stated that the community has monitored for sometimes, the role the Distinguished Senator Dino has been playing especially in the area of human right activities and this has greatly attracted the community to his person, whicg has finally resulted to the honouring of this great Nigerian with the title, “JARMAN of Okuta” he said. Overwhelmed by the out pouring of emotions, the JARMAN of Okuta, Sen. Dino Melaye expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler of Okuta, Alhaji Idris Sero Abubakar, who deemed him fit to be honoured, affirming that he will use the title to uphold justice and to promote community development activities in the community when called upon to assist in that regard.
He described the honour as evidence of community appreciation , of his selfless humanitarian activities and as the voice of the voiceless Nigerians which he has been carrying out in the past years.
He said that He accepted the chieftaincy on the grounds of humility , because he would like to assist any community in his own way without making noise in appreciation of the blessings God had bestowed on him “And by the grace of God, I will do more to further the cause of humanity” he said.
He promised to use the title to enhance unity as he has weighed the commitment of the title with no infringement on his Christian faith .
