The South African government have concluded plans to stop buying crude from Nigeria and have gone ahead to name Iran as their new buying destination.
I just wanted to update the January 2016 sectorial job-loss list of yesterday based on extra information I have been able to gather. Before I do so, let me quickly do a brief recap of yesterday’s breakdown.
Visafone (Telecoms – 3000 sacked), Imo state government (Public sector – 3000 dismissed), FCMB (Banking – 700 fired) and NNPC (2000 sack letters prepared and dangling on 2000 heads).
In addition to this list, I’ve been able to gather reliably that emerging sectors which were planted during the last administration and were thriving have begun to buckle under the pressure of this economic directionlessness.
E-commerce companies Jumia and Konga last week laid of 30 & 35 percent of their staff respectively.
Innoson Vehicles which is in the car manufacturing subsector released 50% of her staff.
Remember GEJ personally travelled to Nnewi to commission the Innoson car plant and even made it compulsory for some of his ministers to include Innoson Vehicles in their convoys.
All that seems to be all but a waste of energy now.
Finally, Microsoft Nigeria sacked about 90% of their 52 man strong workforce.
I didn’t put this post up to justify my plea during campaigning for people not to vote for Buhari; I just put this up so the vibrant and interested minds could come up with suggestions as to how they think this decline could be nipped in the bud with alacrity.
Most people might think Mr President and his team knows what they’re doing and might even be bidding for more time for them but you all might be surprised if they confide in you that they have no clues as to how to solve most of these problems (which are on the increase).
A few minute ago, I read that the South African government have concluded plans to stop buying crude from Nigeria and have gone ahead to name Iran as their new buying destination.
We must find a way to pass suggestions and comments across to the Presidency
Our country needs help, lets join hands and see if we can help the President and in the process save Nigeria from sinking.
