INEC is to deploy eighteen thousand five hundred and eleven personnel (18,511) to Edo State; as SDP members have reportedly defected to PDP en masse

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to deploy eighteen thousand five hundred and eleven personnel (18,511) to Edo State.

The personnels are to be deployed ahead of the Edo governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 10th September, 2016.

The deployed personnels will be dispersed throughout the eighteen (18) Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Edo state has a total of 1,925,105 registered voters; 192 Registration Areas (RAs); 2,627 Polling Units (Pus); and 4,011 Voting Points (VPs).

The electoral body will deploy the personnels in the following format:

– 1 Returning Officer;

– 18 Local Government Area Collation Officers;

– 192 Registration Area Collation Officers;

– 263 Supervisory Presiding Officers;

– 2,627 Presiding Officers

– 12, 036 Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) I, II and III;

– 2,530 Assistant Presiding Officers (VP);

– 728 Reserve APOs (5%);

– 19 LGA Supervisors + 1 HQ Reserve; and,

– 97 RA Cluster Supervisors + HQ 1 Reserve (2RAs/Supervisor).

So far, the contestants from the two major parties have been campaigning to woo electorates to their sides.

From one corner is Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo State governorship primary election.

From the All Progressives Congress (APC) camp is Mr Godwin Obaseki, the party’s candidate for the upcoming Edo State governorship election.

In the meantime, though, massive defection has been experienced in Edo state as thousands of Social Democratic Party (SDP) members have reportedly defected to PDP.

According to the former SDP members, Edo PDP candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu is the man under whose leadership Edo state will come to flourish.

One of the SDP leaders is a former National Assembly member representing Etsako federal constituency, Alhaji Abubakar Momoh.

Momoh said: “We decided to join the PDP because it has a candidate that will help Edo State get out of where it is today which is not comfortable.

“That candidate is a person who I believe will help to move Edo forward.”

He said his faith in the PDP and its candidate stems from the fact that he has known the candidate since 1987.

“If he becomes the governor of Edo State, he is a man I honestly believe is the right person for the job.

“Why I think he is the right man is because he is a man of truth; he will not make empty promises”, he added.
