Ex-Customs Boss—Dikko In Trouble For Defrauding Nigerian N1.1b

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered former Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Abdullahi Inde Dikko to appear before the court to answer a pending charge accusing him and two others of defrauding the Managing Director of Cambial Limited, Yemi Obadeyi of N1.1 bilion.

However, owing to the fact that Dikko has been evading since last year, ICPC applied, under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), for substituted service.

Consequent upon that, the court ordered that the charge be served on him through the lawyer that represented him during investigation.

The charge was proffered against the former Customs Comptroller-General by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission [ICPC] in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/21/2018.

ICPC told the court that it has served the charge on the other two defendants – Garba Makarfi (a former Assistant Comptroller in charge of finance at the Nigeria Customs Service) and Umar Husseini (a lawyer) but that Dikko has been evading since last year.

At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, Dikko (the first defendant) was absent, while Makarfi and Husseini were in court which prompted the judge to so order.

Prosecution lawyer, Adenekan Shogunle told the court that he will comply with the court’s order and serve the charge on the law firm of Mahmud A. Magaji (SAN) & Co for onward delivery to the first defendant (Dikko).
