69

Some members of former Niger Delta militants, on Wednesday, stormed the main entrance of the National Assembly in protest.

The former militants are demanding payment of their allowances which, according to them, are being unduly withheld.

Some of them carried placards with the inscriptions like, ‘Dokubo Must Go’ and ‘Pay Us Our Stipends.’

Some of the militants also demanded the sack of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Prof Charles Dokubo.

The protesters arrived at the gate of the National Assembly as early as 7:30am ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to present the 2019 Appropriation Bill.

The ex-militants said the protest was to draw the attention of President Buhari to the alleged mismanagement of the programme by Prof. Dokubo.

The presentation is scheduled for 11am.
