EXCLUSIVE: Extrajudicial killings in Imo & Uzodinma’s compensatory quest

Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, seems to have realized the significance of empathizing and compensating the families and victims of ruthless extrajudicial killings in Imo State by the Nigerian security operatives.

Elombahnews can authoritatively report that the governor has commenced a process to compensate the families and victims of the ruthless extrajudicial killings by the security operatives in Imo State following the security challenge by the unknown gunmen who are killing the police and army personnel as well razing police stations and goverment installations in the region.

Recall that there have been overwhelming reports and documented videos of innocent people who were shot dead by the police and army in a bid to neutralise the infamous activities of the unknown gunmen in Imo State.

The prevailing ugly security situation in the state has created unprecedented panic and chronic anxiety on Imo natives and residents that a mere sound of a burst tyre near any place causes people and passers-by to scamper for safety as shootings continue on daily basis by both the unknown gunmen and the known gunmen.

This unfortunate insurrection, barbaric attacks and extrajudicial killings have no doubt caused loss of lives and property amongst whom is the Umuoziri Inyishi Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State born Mr Matthew Opara also known as NWATAKWOCHA

Elombahnews gathered that on May 25, 2021, the unknown gunmen stormed Orji Community in Owerri-North Local Government Area of the state and set ablaze the Orji Police Division.

Reinforcements were made to counter the unknown gunmen which eyewitnesses account said came after the gunmen operated freely and comfortably left.

A video surfaced later in the social media platforms of a man who identified himself as Nwatakwocha with gunshot wound on his chest making calls to a certain person, informing him or her of his predicament while struggling to survive.

Later same day, another video emerged of the same Nwatakwocha who was dead on a stretcher being taken into a white sequia ambulance for deposition to a mortuary.

In that video, it could be heard of a male voice shouting, “Nigerian soldiers have killed my brother, my only brother, ndi gbara egbe agbachaala laa, ndi army abia gbagbuo my brother” (The gunmen have finished shooting and left while the army came and shot dead my brother).

As a result, Elombahnews learnt that a sympathatic reprieve have come the way of the late Mr Matthew Opara family as Governor Hope Uzodinma finally did the needful to the late Nwatakwocha by paying a condolence visit to them in their family compound at Umuoziri Inyishi Ikeduru LGA.

Mr. Hope Uzodinma who was represented in the courtesy visit by an APC leader in the area and MBAIKE operational leader, Chief Charls Amadi known as Charlvon noted “that Gov Hope Uzodinma regretted the shooting and death of the late Mathew Opara”.

He promised “to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are apprehended and brought to Justice for their crimes”.

Governor Uzodinma at the visit also promised to complete a building which the deceased father of two was about to start before his death. He said that they should immediately forward to him the proposed cost of the said building.

On late Mr Matthew Opara’s two Children, aged 5 and 2, Governor Uzodinma promised to cater for them to their University level.

The Governor who condoled with the wife of the deceased, the Opara Family and the entire Umuoziri Inyishi in general over the unfortunate loss, pledged to do all he can to restore normalcy in the State.

In their separate responses, the elder brother of the deceased, Barr Chris Opara and an elder statesman in the area, Sir Gesford Akudinobi, thanked the governor for finding time to identify with them at their period of grief.

They informed him that they had planned to embark on a peaceful demonstration to the home of their MBAIKE operational leader but it stands cancelled, following the visit.

He said, “while we commend Gov Hope Uzodinma for this show of empathy, we urge him to also extend same benevolence to other bereaved families who are victims of the ugly security situation in Imo State.
