Exclusive: More trouble for Utazi as Ifeanyi Ubah rejects his apologies
Insists he must make verbal pronouncement before the Senate
The impasse between the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu North), seems to be far from over as Senator Ubah has rejected the two apologies tendered by the later.
Senator Utazi had apologised to his Anambra South counterpart after he moved a motion based on information he gleaned from a fake report from a non-credible website.
The report had stated that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah kicked against senators purchasing vehicles from the Indigenous Nnewi-based manufacturer, Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing (IVM).
It stated further the Anambra senator claimed that Innoson Motors are mere death traps and that offering him the car is as good as signing his death warrant.
Consequently, Senator Utazi raised a point of note during plenary at the Senate citing the fake report.
He drew the attention of senators to alleged disparaging comments made by some Nigerians against IVM motors and its Chief Executive Officer, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.
For some minutes, Ifeanyi Ubah engaged Utazi were in a shouting match over the said disparaging comments.
Before Utazi could complete his submissions, some other senators from the South-East geo-political zone, countered him.
The South-East senators wondered why such a fake report should constitute a point of reference on the floor of the Senate.
Following the standoff between the senators, Utazi, on two separate occasions, apologized to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, saying his submission at the floor of the Senate was misunderstood.
The Enugu Senator penned two letters to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah where he once again regretted the fall out of his misconstrued outing on the floor of the plenary a few days ago [see the attached document below].
The outing generated heated debate as a result of exploitation by the political opponents of the Distinguished Senator.
He described the opponents as “political jobbers” and asked that his Distinguished colleague forgive the embarrassment caused him.
“It is regrettable that my submission on the floor of the Senate is misunderstood and is being exploited by political jobbers and detractors of Senator Ubah,” he said.
Reacting during a telephone interview with ElombahNews, however, the Senator representing Anambra South said he rejected Utazi’s apologies.
He wondered how a Distinguished Senator will be scavenging news from all sorts of sources without verification.
He said it is unthinkable that such spurious allegations can be made against a senator by a colleague.
He insisted that Utazi goofed big time and that he must make verbal acknowledgment before the Senate.
“The same manner he messed up before the senate, same way he must apologise before the senate, not only to me but also to all the senators who felt embarrassed by his motion,” he said.
He also threatened to hold a twonhall meeting at Utazi’s constituency and make some disclosures about the senator.
Utazi could not be reached as at the time of this report but ElombahNews is still making efforts to reach him and get his own side of the story.
