FG accused of planning to pay repented Boko Haram members N150k monthly
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has been accused of planning to start paying repented Boko Haram members N150,000 monthly.
Unofficial sources circulated the news in the internet on Thursday, saying that arrangements have been concluded to that effect.
One unofficial source stated: “You don’t need university degree anymore.
“Just join Boko Haram terrorists group, spent two weeks at Sambisa, come out from Sambisa Forest, surrender your AK 47 and repent.
“Buhari-led govt will be paying you 150,000 monthly. Is there any more lucrative business in Nigeria than this?’
Another source said:” Something that you can only found in Buhari’s Nigeria:
“Soldiers are being paid 65,000 as monthly salaries; while repented Boko Haram terrorists are being paid 150,000 as monthly stipend.”
Also, another source recalled that then as presidential aspirant, Buhari said in 2014 that Boko Haram members are misguided brothers who should not be killed but pampered.
He then warned the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan presidency that any military action against Boko Haram will be considered an act of war against Northern Nigeria.
However, reacting to the story making rounds, Mr. Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Buhari, debunked the news as fake.
Taking to his Twitter handle on Thursday, he posted:
FAKE NEWS ALERT: The Federal Government is NOT planning to start paying repented Boko Haram members N150,000 monthly, the story is baseless and should be regarded as the usual fake news. When you see it here or on WhatsApp, ask the poster to provide a credible source of the story.
