FG orders Telecom companies to stop selling, registering new SIMs without NIN
The federal government of Nigeria, through the National Communication Commission (NCC), has ordered Telecommunication companies in Nigeria to stop selling and registering new SIM cards without NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (NIN).
NCC made the disclosure on Tuesday via a statement.
According to the new regulation, all new Sim cards must be registered with NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBERs while old Sim cards must be updated with NIN in the coming year 2021.
NNC, therefore, Nigerians who have not gotten personal NINs to rush to the nearest National ID card registration center now and get registered before the process will intensify.
It could be recalled that similar hardship was experienced by subscribers during the time of the registration of Bank Verification Number (BVN).
