A staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service [FIRS], Salihu Umar has discredited the statement put forth by the Executive Chairman of the agency, Mr. Muhammad Nami, that no any member of FIRS staff at the headquarters in Abuja tested positive to COVID-19 saying that he tested positive for the novel COVID-19.
Mr. Nami had, in a press statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Director, Communications and Liaison Department, Abdullahi Ismaila Ahmad, debunked “the news making the rounds on social media that a member of staff at the FIRS tested positive to COVID-19 after returning from abroad via British Airways.”
Stories also had it that the victim’s wife’s result turned negative when tested and that all biometric sign at the Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja, has been stopped with immediate effect.
In a twist of events, taking to his Twitter handle on Monday, barely two days after the FIRS authorities denied the report, he tweeted:
“I have just tested positive for COVID-19. At the moment, I am still under self-isolation as health personnel make their way to my house for evacuation to Gwagwalada Isolation Centre. My neighbours and employer have been notified accordingly.”
Umar called on the Federal Government to shut down Lagos and Abuja immediately in order to contain the spread.
The accountant, who has a BSc and MBA in Agricultural Economics and Business Management, said he was exposed to the virus on an aircraft.
