Forensic expert indicts Army, says bullets fired at Lekki Tollgate during EndSARS were theirs
Mr. Joseph Kayode Funsho, a forensic expert, who testified before the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution set up by the Lagos State Government following the fatal shooting at Lekki Toll Gate during the EndSARS protests, has indicted the Nigerian Army.
The Judicial Panel was set up to unravel details of the shooting that took place at during the protest.
Testifying on Friday, Mr. Funsho who works with Sentinel Forensic Limited, confirmed that bullets fired at the Lekki Tollgate were actually registered to the Nigerian Army.
He, however, said the blank shells did not match the records from the Nigerian Army’s inventory.
It could be remembered that The Nigerian security personnel claimed that only blank bullets were fired at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20.
Testifying on November 2020, Commander of the 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo, had said under oath that only blank bullets containing gunpowder were fired during the incident.
Brigadier Taiwo also insisted that the military only fired into the air and not directly at the #EndSARS protesters.
He said if real bullets were indeed fired, one bullet had the potency to kill three persons at one shot to support his testimony that only blank bullets were used, and cannot cause damage to the human flesh.
Mr. Funsho, however, spoke to the contrary to the claims of the Nigerian Army, insisting that the bullets fired at the Lekki Tollgate were registered to the Nigerian Army while the blank shells did not match the records from Army inventory.
The panel of inquiry adjourned the hearing till Saturday, September 11.
