The people of Southern Borno have recently lamented over what they termed “a merciless duping” by one Alhaji Bitari Ilela who opened a Unity Micro Finance Bank in
Biu town of Borno State.
According to Dr Joshua Dikwa, Bitari set up a Micro Finance Bank in the name of reviving the dwindling economy of the area with a confirmed license obtained from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which convinced many people to deposit their hard earned Money.
Dikwa and many others lamented during a telephone interactive session with Journalist in Yola that Alhaji succeeded in taking away even the pension and gratuity of many people making them unable to carter for their children.
A widow with four children, Mrs Chaman Wazani was heard crying and raining curses on Bitari to have duped her of two million naira of her husband’s pension for the purpose of training her children in school.
All efforts to get him from 2013-2014 proved abortive.
A civil servant who identified himself as Simon Mshelia and was defrauded of 2.5 million Naira is begging the present federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to help in tracking Ilela in other to retrieve their monies.
“After our investigation, we understood the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is aware of the existence of the Bank and its operation, haven given the banks the licence to operate,” Simon said.
“We are therefore pleading with Buhari to rescue us out from the trouble this man has put us through he is nowhere to be found; he has been into hiding after duping us and many died as a result of the incident,” he added.
A human activist, Barr Kabir Marafa said the story is the same all over Nigeria that CBN have licenced many people to go and dupe Nigerians, as the many of the micro finance Bank licensed across the country are not operating.
“I categorically want to tell you that CBN have joined hands with bad eggs in Nigeria to cheat our fellow brothers who are mostly peasant farmers, petty traders, labourers, pensioners, widows and orphans that wanted to improve their standard of living,” Marafa said.
Kabir added that all the anti-corruption agencies should be up and doing by arresting any culpable Micro Finance Bank whose owner is having some shady deals with his customers.
