From The Archives: Sule Lamido’s Take On Buhari
Says let our people be wise
Below is a statement credited to former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido dated September 13, 2017, on the style of governance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
We all have become unwitting witnesses to the damage being done to the soul of Nigeria by a leadership that acts first and never thinks.
Leaders who do not understand that the first and most important task of nationhood in a multi-ethnic country is Brotherhood.
Nothing should matter until Nigeria truly becomes a nation where people are not killed/maimed on the basis of tribe, religion or politics.
We saw it before: when some of our party members were killed for supporting a party different from that of their so-called messiah.
We see it again now and it is a shame to Humanity – weapons procured to fight terror, deployed on unarmed citizens who see differently.
We saw it before it happened and we warned. The first task of any human is to be Humane. The first task of any Nation is to be a Nation.
But how will a Nation be, except its Political Leadership understands the intricacies of governing a Multi-Ethnic Country to Nationhood?
Nigeria belongs to All of Us and this is a task we all must accept and work towards. Recent events are sad and Diminish our Humanity.
We will not pursue power with desperation or grandstanding but put forward our ideology and hope that those who see it with us will join us.
If Nigeria will work, it must work as “Nigeria for all Nigerians” not for some and to the detriment of others.
We do not just build bridges, we respect differences and understand them. We see everyone first and last as humans, like us, not inferior.
Those who joined in pushing forward this option of failed and soulless leadership must not lead you astray again.
Let our people be wise!
Sule Lamido on 13/09/2017
And last year the former governor of Jigawa State and then presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, said his Party was voted out of power in 2015 based on blackmail.
He, however, added that three years down the line, Nigeria had become a war zone because of the present government’s alleged incompetence.
Lamido stated this in Lagos when he met with PDP chieftains in the state to inform them about his ambition to run for the presidency in 2019.
“In 2019, the coast is clear. There is no way APC will win. Look at the country, are we united? Are we stable? Are we prosperous? Are we secure? We’ve become a world embarrassment; we are becoming an ancient nation. So PDP will come back in 2019.
“There is no way, Buhari will ever come back no matter what he does, because he knows he is a contraption who rode on the notions of the Nigerian people based on blackmail, sentiment and hate speech,” he alleged.
He pleaded with Nigerians to help ensure APC does not return in 2019, adding: “If we allow Nigeria to go to APC in 2019, God will judge us.”
