George Floyd: Wife of killer cop files for divorce
Mrs. Kellie Chauvin, wife of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer in the United States who murdered George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for several minutes leading to his death, has expressed her intention to divorce her husband after a decade of marriage.
Mrs. Chauvin announced this in a statement issued on her behalf by her attorney.
According to the statement, Kellie said she is devastated by the killing of George Floyd has filed for divorce.
The statement reads in part: “I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family.
“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy.
“She has filed for dissolution of her marriage to Derek Chauvin.
“While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”
U.S. authorities had sacked Derek Chauvin and three other officers and subsequently arrested him on Friday.
The prosecuting council charged him with 3rd-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd’s death.
The incident had sparked off nationwide protests that have culminated into violence and unrest.
