Standup for Women Society (SWS), a non-governmental organisation, on Saturday urged women not to relent in efforts to make positive contributions towards nation building.
Its President, Deborah Ijadele-Adetona, made the call in Port Harcourt on Saturday while inaugurating the Rivers chapter executives of the group.
She urged women to take up roles that would promote good governance at different tiers of government in the interest of nation building.
The president stated that women had the capacity to make their impacts felt in all spheres of life, saying: “the strength of women cannot be taken for granted”.
“The nation will fare better if women become more proactive. If they represent the engine room of homebuilding, this can effectively affect the nation at large,” she said.
Ijadele-Adetona restated the commitment of the group to speak in favour of women, and indulge in acts capable of positioning them for greater inputs to national development.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs Ifeoma Ossai, the Rivers chapter Chairman of the association, expressed the readiness of her team to mobilise women for greater participation in nation building.
“We are mobilising women and preaching the need to be more committed towards playing roles in the development and growth of our nation.
“I am aware of our core mandates as a women rights organization, we shall work to promote, update and upgrade the course of women in Nigeria,” she said. (NAN)
