Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on all residents of Khana and Gokana Local Government Areas who fled their homes as a result of military presence in the area to return to their homes.
Heavy shooting had rent the air in the affected communities yesterday evening when soldiers invaded the country home of former militant leader, Solomon Ndigbara.
The residents had deserted the community while the shootings lasted, leaving scores injured.
As an aftermath, Ndigbara’s house was razed and soldiers took over the community although the ex-militant was not at home.
Elombah.com gathered that the shooting spilled over to Bori in Khana Local Government area, as irate youths burnt down the campaign office of Senator Magnus Abe, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), whom they accused, with another member of the party, of masterminding the raids by soldiers.
Governor Wike said that the heavy military presence in the area is aimed at promoting security of lives and property and not to harm law abiding residents.
In a statement issued by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Wike assured the people of their safety.
The governor said that his administration will always enhance the security of all residents of the state, urging the people of Khana and Gokana Local Government Areas to cooperate with the security agencies to maintain law and order.
