Herdsmen butcher woman for resisting grazing on her farm in Ondo


Some suspected Fulani herdsmen have allegedly attacked a rice farmer, a woman, identified as Amaka Okafor, after she resisted their cows from grazing on her rice farm on Wednesday.

The incidence took place in Ayede Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The herdsmen, according to reports, were grazing with their animals in the neighbourhood and chanced upon the woman’s farm.

The woman stood up and tried to stop them, at which point they reportedly inflicted machete cuts on her her.

The assailants left her and absconded after she became unconscious on the farm from the machete cuts on her head and hands.

The Ondo State Police COmmand Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the incident, saying the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Ikoro assured that the command had commenced investigation into the matter.

He said: “The good news is that the victim could identify the assailants and we have begun investigation into it.

“The woman is recuperating at the hospital.”

He promised to provide update as soon as more information is available.
