Members of the House of Representatives have, on Tuesday, returned the Christian Religious Knowledge [CRK] as independent subject of the school curriculum.
The House jettisoned the federal government’s policy that brought CRK under Civic Education and made it compulsory in Secondary School curriculum.
Following a motion filed by Hon. Beni Lar, the members agreed that the policy violated some segments of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on the provision of religious liberties.
It was further agreed that students should be taught the religious subjects of their choice in school and that CRK and Islamic Studies be treated independently.
