The shot doctor
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) embarked on a peaceful protest to tell the Rochas Okorocha evil government not to sell the hospitals and facilities in the state all in the name of concession and the least the police should have done is to provide these gentlemen MAXIMUM PROTECTION.
But what did they get? A family consultant was shot by the trigger happy policemen and he’s currently battling to save his life.
Rather than apologize to these learned men and fish out these killer-policemen, the Deputy Commissioner of Police [DCP] had the audacity to call them hoodlums.
This is not a battle for the medical doctors alone but all medical practitioners.
This is not a union matter but an issue that rubs off on all clinical staff irrespective of your field in medicine.
That men and women who spent years in school far beyond the most learned policeman can be shot in broad daylight and no medical worker has downed tool and closed the whole hospitals in the state is a slap on the health sector.
In a sane society, no police officer will be treated by a medical worker as they will be blacklisted.
Do these policemen know what it takes to be a consultant?
If they know, they will stand attention as they march past during the protest and even turn the gun against Rochas.
If you have been to the hospital, you will know that even the health attendants should not be shot by any security man, talk more of a clinical staff.
This is not only condemned but also abhorred that life would be snuffed out of those who save lives.
I call on all medical workers in Imo State, from the scientists, pharmacists, D.Os, Physio, Nurses, Dentists, Radiographers, Dieticians and everyone who treat patients to down tools and join the NMA in their just protest.
They must also blacklist the entire Nigerian Police Force until the culprit is brought to book and apologies tendered to the association.
