Most Political Science students converged at the agreement that Politics is the authoritative allocation of resources. They went further to posit that the Selfishness of man has limits, but his quest for power has none.
It is from the above postulations that I author this piece.
In 1999, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu emerged as the governor of Abia state and was in the saddle for 8 years.
He was an emperor of a sort. He did everything he wanted. When he realized that the traditional rulers are powerful agents of change, he moved against the institution and desecrated it.
He divided the communities into villages and made any willing soul a traditional ruler. Most painfully, he chose many with questionable characters to adjudicate for the people. People with deep knowledge in Abia politics are of the opinion that the eight years of Kalu are regrettable as according to them, Abia State never made any meaningful progress like other Nigerian states.
His mother became so powerful that she, unknown in the Nigerian constitution became the allocator of scarce resources.
At a point, he dumped PDP and built PPA.
Then, former governor, Theodore Orji was his Chief of Staff.
Kalu having conquered almost all political gladiators in the state made TA Orji governor despite the fact that he was in the EFCC net at that time.
Abia State prominent sons and daughters turned the other way as the state became a personal fiefdom.
It is no longer news that TA Orji occupied that Oval office in Umuahia for another 8 years, making it 16 years of two friends and accomplices.
Midway into making Abia state their personal ATM machines; they parted ways, and almost became political enemies.
The state was fully polarized along Orji Uzor and TA Orji camps, according to political pundits in Abia State.
Not a few are of the opinion that the 8 years of TA Orji did not do much to transform the state economically.
It is a fait accompli that TA Orji would not have been governor of Abia State without the political inputs of Uzor Kalu his godfather.
Strangely, the present government of Abia stops at nothing to demonize Kalu, but eulogizes TA Orji to high heavens. This, many can’t understand.
Many who know the workings of this government and who would not want their names in print are disgruntled about the hypocrisy of this present government and its apostles.
According to one them, “who is in this state that never knew that TA Orji performed abysmally poor when he held sway as the governor of Abia State. There is no landmark or visible memorial one can attribute to TA Orji. For many of us, this is hypocrisy at its peak”.
On the atmosphere of anonymity, those close to the decision-makers in the government will quietly tell you that critics of this government should be soft in lampooning Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu Ph.D
Uzoma Blessing said, “We need to sympathize with the present government. The present government met nothing on the ground and no one wants to talk about it. The treasury was simply empty. Politics are laced with lies. TA and OUK finished this state and our people have singled out OUK and continue to lambast him at every opportunity, even those that benefited from his government is not good. This is not fair at all”.
Despite that the fact that they all know the truth, the government in power connived and sent him to the Senate and all are set to return him to the Hallowed Chamber for the second time.
This is when their godfather has been making frantic efforts to sit in the Red Chamber to no avail.
If TA Orji is good to go the Senate, why not Orji Kalu?
For many, PDP, is simply swimming in the ocean of hypocrisy.
