I’ll not criticise Buhari; I took oath to defend the president – Abati

“If you have been following my writings, you will notice that I haven’t been commenting directly on government issues, I’m not going to say anything.”

Former Special adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, has gone on record to say he will never criticize the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an exclusive chat with THEBRIEF.ng, Abati said he took an oath of office to protect the President of Nigeria.

This newspaper had contacted Mr. Abati to shed more light on the infamous “budget mafia” believed to have bedeviled the 2016 Appropriation Bill submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, Abati curtly said he had no comment, he had no idea, and he had nothing to say.

The “budget mafia” has been likened, in recent days, to the “Oil Cabal” that ridiculed the previous administration’s efforts to clean up the petroleum industry.

“If you have been following my writings, you will notice that I haven’t been commenting directly on government issues, I’m not going to say anything.”

Suggesting that he has returned successfully to life after office, Abati said: “I’ve returned to my work as an intellectual, doing my own writings and reflections on society”

The Former SA admitted that the issue was quite inviting but still managed to suppress the urge to comment.

“No matter how inviting the subject is…I’m not going to comment on Government” Abati said.

“You see, the kind of job that I did, I took an oath of office to defend the President and the government of Nigeria.

“I would not have defended one government and then I will start talking bad about another President, I cannot do that” he continued.

“I’m no longer SA Media, but when you take an oath, its binding and my own understanding as they do it in America is that, that oath does not end, it does not expire”

“In the oath, they won’t put the name of the President, you are swearing to defend the office of the President of Nigeria” Abati concluded.
