I’m Still the Rivers Governor – Nyesom Wike

Nyesom Wike

The Rivers State state governor, Mr Nyesom Wike  has stated that notwithstanding the ruling of the election petitions tribunal, nullifying the State Governorship election and ordering for fresh election in the State, he remains the Executive Governor of the State.

Reassuring the Rivers people and his supporters across the State that “No body will intimidate me to abandon this state.”

“Do not make trouble, conduct yourself so that the world will know that you are peaceful”, Mr Wike said.

“Do not panic the law is on our side and God is on our side. If they want let them bring the highest squared we will protect your mandate. Thank you all for your support.”

Mr Wike also said, “We have come back from Abuja with party national chairman and other leaders. By my profession I’m not suppose to criticise any judge but what I will say is that the tribunal has given their verdict but I know it’s not the verdict of God. Your mandate no one will touch. We have to protect Rivers State. I’m still the governor of Rivers State. All of their gang up will do nothing. We cannot be intimidated. We are going to Appeal court and after that Supreme court.”

Mr Wike said “In Lagos PDP went to court with card reader as one of their case and the tribunal said card reader is not part of the electoral act and based on that APC won the case. Same tribunal nullified our election based on card reader. The tribunal cannot overturn the verdict of a higher court.”

“Labour party(LP) and Social Democratic Party(SDP) did not give 21 days notice to INEC based on that the tribunal disqualified them but APC based on same fault is different.”

The Rivers State Tribunal sitting in Port Harcourt today removed the governor, Nyesom Wike and ordered fresh elections in the state. In it’s judgment the Tribunal said: “We hereby order INEC to conduct fresh elections. We are in agreement that the evidence of the witnesses of Wike and INEC is incredible and unreliable. We are satisfied that the petitioners have proved their case.”

Justice Suleiman Ambrosa also ruled that the card reader accreditation was vital to the election and the votes recorded. He said that the press statement issued by INEC on the matter supercedes the Electoral Act as the card reader was a new introduction that was aimed to promote transparency. He said on the balance of probability, he is inclined to belive the petitioner witnesses ahead of the witnesses of the Respondents.

The tribunal declared that testimonies of the 56 witnesses called by the petitioner were enough to cover the entire state of 5972 polling units and points.

Justice Ambrosa declared that the documents tendered by APC which the party failed to lead evidence in court were not dumped on it. He however, said that the documents tendered by the Respondents were dumped on it and it would not attach weight to them.

Meanwhile the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reassured the Rivers people and its supporters across the State that notwithstanding the compromised ruling of the election petitions tribunal, nullifying the State Governorship election and ordering for fresh election in the State, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike still remains the Executive Governor of the State.

Reacting to what it called a travesty of justice and rape on democracy, the State PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah said no matter the degree of conspiracy by the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government, the falsehood and gang-up against Rivers people will amount to a nullity in the end.

In a press statement signed by Signed by Jerry Needam, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Rivers PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, made available to Elombah.com and dated Saturday, October 24, 2015, Bro Obuah while urging the Rivers people not to panic over the pre-empted judgment which had been decided long before the written addresses by the parties were adopted Thursday, October 22, 2015 cited section 143, subsection 1 of the Electoral Act 2010 which guarantees an elected governor to stay in office and continue to execute his duties as the State Chief Executive as long as a notice of appeal is given against the judgment within 21 day from the date of the judgment notwithstanding the decision of the election tribunal.

And not minding the certainty of winning any future elections in the State against the conspirators, the State PDP Chairman said this is one tribunal judgment that will never stand, stressing that the PDP will get to any legal height possible to fight the injustice.

There is no other reason why the tribunal hurriedly delivered the contraption it called judgment in less than 24 hours after adopting the written addresses on a matter that lasted over four months than to pre-empt the judgment of the Supreme Court against the tribunal by the PDP which comes up next week Tuesday, the Chairman noted.

“The good thing is that by the hurried judgment, the tribunal chairman has exposed his partiality and shot himself in the leg by defying all legal procedures and going ahead to deliver judgment on the APC petition when there is an impending matter hinging on the appeal at the Supreme Court just as he refused to vacate his seat as chairman of the election petitions tribunal for the State Governorship Election Petitions despite PDP’s resentment on questions of integrity and impartiality.

Notwithstanding all this, in the end we shall have the last laugh”, Bro Obuah declared.

“Men have today Saturday, October 24, 2015 after being compromised serve their immoral judgment, God would soon give justice in the governorship election in Rivers State” Obuah assured

The party also said there will be a solidarity Rally in Port Harcourt at Dr. Obi Wali Cultural centre by 11am on Sunday.

In a statement signed by the state chairman of The Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Elder Felix Obuah says it is in Support of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike [CON].
