ICPC Withdraws Alleged Fraud Charges Against Jang [Update]

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission [ICPC] has withdrawn the charges of fraud proffered against the former governor of Plateau State, Air Commodore Jonah David Jang [Retd].

Jang was the governor of Plateau State from 2007 to 2015 and had previously served as military governor of Benue and defunct Gongola States.

He is presently serving as a senator in the National Assembly representing Plateau North in Plateau State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Reports had it that he was grilled over alleged fraud while he was in office.

Sources said the former governor was detained, however, one of his aides said he was not being detained.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission [EFCC] on Tuesday morning in Abuja grilled Jang over alleged fraud while he was in office.

His senior legislative aide, Olivia Dzyam, in a statement confirmed that the anti-graft agency invited Mr. Jang but insisted that he was not arrested or detained.

“He honoured the invitation of the EFCC,” Ms. Dzyam said.

The administration of Mr. Jang was probed by a committee set up by his successor, Simon Lalong, with the committee reporting that the former governor misappropriated billions of naira.

Mr. Jang was to report to the EFCC last week but directed his lawyer to represent him, citing official engagements for his inability to personally appear before the agency.
