Ifeanyi Okonkwo’s Arraignment Stalled As Judge Withdraws, Remains In EFCC Custody
The arraignment of social crusader, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo on Wednesday failed after the presiding judge disqualify herself from the matter leading to his prolonged stay in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] in Enugu.
Mr. Okonkwo, ElombahNews gathered, is being detained on one-count charge of obtaining by false pretense.
Justice A. O. Anidi of Enugu State High Court 2 disqualified herself from the suit based on a petition submitted by the Mr. Okonkwo himself challenging her jurisdiction to hear the matter.
The former Anambra state governorship candidate argued that the matter bothered on contractual matter, which was beyond the powers of EFCC.
Onwa Nnobi, as he is popularly known, representing himself in court, informed the court that he has a pending matter against the EFCC at the Federal High Court, hence, the commission cannot bring him to another High Court.
Consequently, Justice Anidi disqualified herself from hearing the case for want of jurisdiction and Onwa was taken back into EFCC custody where he has been in detention for eight days.
The bulk of the matter, ElombahNews was informed, was that Okonkwo acted as an agent in the sale of a property belonging to Ifemeluma and Company Enterprises Nigeria Limited at Emene Industrial Estate, Enugu, which was acquired by the Chairman of Peace Mass Transit, Dr. Maduka Onyishi.
Some family members, who expressed dissatisfaction over the transaction, involved the anti-graft agency challenging the multi-million naira transaction.
