Ifedi Okwenna congratulates Ozigbo, says PDP Governorship primaries was unusual one

Dr Ifedi Okwenna, one of the governorship aspirants under the umbrella of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has congratulated Mr Valentine Ozigbo who emerged as the party’s flag bearer after the primary election that was conducted yesterday.
But however, he said something unusual greeted the entire process.
Okwenna in a statement said from anticipated 3200 delegates slated for the party’s primary, only 217 people known as Super delegates finally selected the candidate that will carry the banner of the Party.
He said the decision ended up disenfranchising a great number of Party members.
That the final list of these Super delegates wasn’t fully known until we were in the venue was not the best of a process, Okwenna said.
The statement reads, “My dear friends and supporters,
“Last night the PDP primary election was concluded and Mr Valentine Ozigbo was declared winner. As a party man, I congratulate him for emerging as the candidate of our Party.
“The 2021 Anambra PDP Governorship primaries was an unusual one. From anticipated 3200 delegates, we ended up having 217 people known as Super delegates, deciding who will carry the banner of our great Party. This disenfranchised a great number of our Party members. That the final list of these Super delegates wasn’t fully known until we were in the venue was not the best of a process.
“I refused to quit because, I usually complete every race, I am into. However, as events were unfolding, I decided to make use of my presence in the race to achieve another end. As a strong advocate for shifting power to the South, I joined forces with my colleagues to achieve this with one of us whose chances were brighter. I thank God that, PDP Candidate has gone to Anambra South thereby uniting our Party and providing us with better opportunities to win November 6, Governorship elections.
“I congratulate Val Ozigbo and my Party, PDP and I promise to work for our collective success.
“I thank all my friends and supporters who stood by me in this race since I started this journey in September, 2019. You have not disappointed me and I don’t think I have either. I will continue to brief you as events unfold.
