Nigeria may have contend with Boko Haram menace for many years to come unless it truthfully conducts a research to ascertain why Boko Haram or any of its variants keep springing up in the north.
Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shaba and their likes want an enthronement of an Islamic Caliphate governed as it was at the time of Prophet Mohammed (PUBH).
For these extremists, any culture or civilization, deviations from the provisions in the Koran and Hadith should not be allowed and should be uprooted. And that an infidel should not rule over Muslim faithfuls.
Decade in decades out, one type of religious extremist group or the other would emerge in the north determined to restore the waning Islamic values.
From my own perspective, I think that the major cause of the sporadic rise of these kind of organizations is the direct consequence of religious indoctrination of our youths right from infancy.
Nigeria has to hold a serious discussion to agree on the kind of education our youths all over the country should be exposed to.
It is self-deceiving if we allow our youths to be indoctrinated by poorly exposed Islamic teachers and then hope that they would grow up to embrace national ethos.
I believe that Military and the country are fighting the wrong people.
The real causative agents of Boko Haram are the educational system in the north and the educational content or lack of it being dished out and are consumed by the youths.
Also guilty are the politicians that have the powers to change things but choose to perpetuate ignorance and poverty in the youths to make them easily pliable.
Until the northern youths are properly educated and their understanding of archival Islamic tenets moderated the situation would remain the same.
If we fail to honestly attack the problem from the root, Nigerian Govt should keep earmarking a huge defense budget to fight Boko Haram.
Unfortunately, Boko Haram guys have become randy. They want to have a foretaste of the virgins here on earth.
