The Lagos State High Court has sentenced two visa applicants, Olusola Alabi was and Balogun Teslim to two years imprisonment for presenting fake documents to the embassy of the United States
The two were arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before Justice Mojishola Dada.
ICPC Spokesperson, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa said in a statement that the convicts procured false annual leave letter from the United Bank of Africa to mislead the US Consulate based in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The fraudsters tried to lead the consulate to believing that they were employees of the bank in order to facilitate the approval of their visa applications.
Ruling, the court found them guilty procuring false documents to mislead a constituted authority.
It held that the accused persons violated Section 25(1) (a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, which was punishable under the same section.
The judge sentenced them to two years imprisonment each with an option of fine.
