The Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] has suspended the proposed recall of the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial Zone, Dino Melaye [above].
INEC disclosed its decision in a press release issued on Thursday signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Prince Adedeji Soyebi and obtained by Elombah.com after its regular weekly meeting today.
In the statement, INEC said it is complying with the court order, to maintain status quo till the determination of the plaintiff’s motion on notice, until it discharges the order.
In the suit filed by Senator Melaye, he sought orders of injunction against the Commission, to stop it from acting on the petition by registered voters of his constituency.
The electoral body said it will comply with the order as a responsible, law-abiding institution.
Meanwhile, it has petitioned the Chief Justice of the Nation [CJN] over the court order restricting its constitutional duties.
