Chief Femi Fani Kayode has lambasted the Nigerian Army over the recent invasion of the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB], Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Recall that Elombah.com reprted that a counsel to Nnamdi Kanu had raised an alarm saying his client’s home is currently under siege by security operatives.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s lawyer, said some soldiers stormed Kanu’s home on Tuesday, September 12, and laid siege on the residence.
Reacting, Chief Fani Kayode accused the army of rascality, saying “The behaviour of the military against a defenseless and unarmed civilian population in Abia state is reprehensible.”
In a short memo he personally made available to Elombah.com, he continued:
“What has Nnamdi Kanu or indeed the Igbo people done to warrant this primitive show of barbarism and force?
“We are on the brink of a total breakdown of law and order and a prolonged and bloody armed conflict.
“I urge restraint on all sides and I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw the army from the east and leave Nnamdi Kanu alone.
“Terrorising your own people with soldiers is not the act of a courageous man but rather the act of a tyrant, a coward and a bully.”
In conclusion, he called on the international community “to bear witness to what is unfolding in Nigeria”.
He said Nigerians “will hold Buhari responsible and accountable in the event of any loss of life”.
It is also on record that army operatives attacked the press center of the Nigeria Union of Journalists [NUJ], Zone C in Umuahia.
Responding to stiff criticism from Nigerians, though, the Army has denied that there was a fracas between NUJ Abia State and soldiers on patrol in Umuahia despite video, photo and material evidences.
The Nigerian army had launched Operation Python dance II in the South East region to checkmate the activities of IPOB in the region.
