Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu was released from Kuje Prison on Friday after perfecting what were really tough bail conditions.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB], Nnamdi Kanu has finally been released from Kuje Prison where he has spent about 1 1/2 year.

Elombah.com gathered that he was released on Friday evening, barely 48 hours after he was granted a tough bail by Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Justice Murtala-Nyako had granted him bail on health conditions with heavy stringent conditions.

Kanu's lawyer has, however, after the judgement boasted that his client will meet the bail conditions with 48 hours, and true to his word, Kanu walked free within the said 48 hours.

Kanu was brought from Kuje Prison to the Federal High Court Abuja to sign the necessary bail papers.

The process, which took about 10 minutes saw Kanu emerging with smiles from the court in company of his sureties and relatives.

Earlier, his lawyer, Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, his three sureties, the Chairman, South East Senate caucus, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, a Jewish High Chief Priest, Immanuu-El Shalom and a Chartered Accountant residing in Abuja, Tochukwu Uchendu signed his bail bond.

Nyako, in her ruling said that one of the sureties must be a senior highly placed person of Igbo extraction, such as a senator.

He was also to produce a highly respected and recognised Jewish leader and a highly respected person, who is resident and owns landed property in Abuja.

Nyako ruled that each of the sureties are to deposit N100 million each.

In addition to the bail conditions, Kanu was barred from attending any rally or granting any form of interview.

Kanu who is standing trial on allegations of treasonable felony along with three others, has been in detention for about two years

Nnamdi Kanu met the numerous bail conditions imposed on him by federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu who was granted bail on Tuesday was asked to provide three sureties, consisting of a serving Senator, a Jewish religious leader and a traditional leader from the South-East.

Each of the sureties is to provide N100 million bond and must own a landed property in Abuja.

In line with his counsels promise to meet his bail condition within 48 hours, Chairman, South East Senate caucus and former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, a Jewish High Chief Priest, Immanuu-El Shalom and a Chartered Accountant residing in Abuja, Tochukwu Uchendu were all present to stand as sureties to perfect Kanu’s bail.

Justice Binta Nyako who granted the IBOP leader bail also barred Kanu from attending any rally and granting any form of interview.

He was also mandated not be in a crowd exceeding 10 persons.

Kanu was also asked to surrender his British and Nigerian passports and sign an undertaking to avail himself for trial at all times.”

Kanu is standing trial for treason and management of an unlawful society.

He has being in prison since 2015 after he was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.
