The announcement of the results of the election had been stopped three days ago after thugs invaded the collation centre in Orlu and tore the result sheets.

However, following the directive from INEC headquarters, the Resident Electoral Commissioner [REC] continued the collation of the remaining four units and announced the winner.

The REC was heard shouting at them, saying, “My friend, can you allow me to do my job?”

It was gathered that one of the parties had obtained a court order stopping further announcement, which the police had probably gone to enforce.

The collation process went on amidst high tension until the winner was announced.
