INTERPOL declares Abdulrasheed Maina wanted over N2b scam


The International Police network, INTERPOL, has declared the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team [PRTT], Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina wanted.

The International Police network, INTERPOL, has declared the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team [PRTT], Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina wanted.

Mr. Maina is wanted over a two billion Naira scam allegedly perpetrated while he presided over the Pension Reform Task Force.

Elombah.com gathered that INTERPOL placed an alert on Maina in response to a request from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC].

Prior to this, the commission had obtained a court warrant to declare Maina wanted.

The anti-graft agency has on November 2, 2015, declared Abdulrasheed Maina wanted as contained in the following announcement:

“The public is hereby notified that Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for offences bordering on Procurement Fraud and Obtaining by False Pretence.

“Dark complexioned Maina is allegedly complicit in the over N 2 billion Pensions Biometric Scam in the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation. He remains at large, after charges were filed against his accomplices.

“Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts  should contact the Commission in its Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja offices or through these numbers 09-4604620,  070-26350721,070-26350722,070-26350723,070-6350724, 070-26350725 ; its  e-mail address: info@efccnigeria.org or the nearest Police Station and other security agencies.”

Haven failed to arrest Maina, EFCC had written to the Inspector-General of Police to request his assistance to get the INTERPOL to issue a world-wide alert on Maina on November 18, 2015.

The commission had charged Maina to the Federal High Court on July 10, 2015 with charge number FHC/ABJ/297/2015.

The police authorities in a response to the EFCC’s request through the Commissioner of Police in charge of INTERPOL, Mr. Olusola Subair, stated that the request had been processed and all the demands met.

Subair was said to have informed the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, that the INTERPOL had placed a red alert on Maina at its general secretariat in Lyon, France.

“Be informed that the Bureau has taken necessary action on the wanted fugitive as requested with INTERPOL General Secretariat, Lyon, France.

“He has been published on the INTERPOL Red Notice accordingly,” Subair was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, EFCC is of the view that Maina might be hiding at the United Arab Emirates.
