The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday refuted media reports that the incarcerated director of Radio Biafra, and leader of IPOB, Dr Nnamdi Kanu, had agreed to negotiate with the Federal Government for his release.
The Media/Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Mr Emma Powerful described the lawyers’ action as an unwanted distraction.
Mr Emma Powerful made the assertion in a statement made available to journalists in Awka yesterday.
The statement pointed out that, “nobody can set an agenda for IPOB except our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the group urged their members and the general public to disregard the lawyers’ publication.”
It stated further that, “… the leader for the indigenous people of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the members of IPOB worldwide appeal to the general public and the people of Biafra to remain calm and disregard the press releases credited to the defence lawyers, namely Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Chief Amobi Nzelu and others that appeared at a press conference yesterday (Saturday) in Abuja.
“It is very unfortunate that the lawyers did not consult the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and members of the Directorate of State before speaking about our relationship with the Avengers or willingness to dialogue with the administration of President Buhari.
“In this regard, it is crucial to clarify that our leader is not and will not discuss with the Nigerian government until court orders, granting him unconditional release is obeyed by DSS.
“Therefore the general public should not be perturbed because our march towards the quest for the restoration of God’s nation Biafra is intact under the divine direction of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“We are the biggest mass movement on this planet earth, so we shall not retreat nor surrender.
It maintained: “We have come to get Biafra or we die getting Biafra.
“Nobody should sway our leader or persuade him by setting an agenda for him in this struggle.
“Those that know him will attest to the fact that Biafra is more important to him than his life.
“Therefore, the general public must understand that Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Barr. Amobi Nzelu are not members of the indigenous people of Biafra.
“They are only there for the legal defence of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, therefore, they don’t know the modus operandi of the IPOB family.
“We are calling on all the members of the indigenous people of Biafra worldwide, lovers of freedom and friends of Biafra to disregard the statement credited to the defence counsel.
“No man can stop the quest for the liberation of our people”
The group said it had observed that some people have “come up again to deceive some foreign countries which scheduled to visit Biafra territory to ascertain the predicaments of our people.
“We are also aware that some people are making efforts to misdirect the members of the National Assembly who want to visit and ascertain how the Nigeria Army and other security agents massacred the members of the indigenous people of Biafra on 29th and 30th of May 2016.
While calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB members in detention, the group commended the efforts being made by the Federal Government to release their members in Aba, Abia state.
Kanu was arrested and detained since October last year over mixed offences bordering on treason.
His lawyers on Friday addressed the press in Abuja, stating that the IPOB leader was willing to negotiate with Federal Government to secure his release and end the political crisis that had trailed his incarceration.
