Ize-Iyamu wins, emerges APC Edo 2020 flag bearer

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has one the All Progressives Congress (APC) direct primary election conducted on Monday to emerge the governorship aspirants of Edo State APC flagbearer.

He polled 27,838 votes, his closest rival, Dr Pius Odubu scored 3,776, while Mr Osaro Obaze pulled 2,751 votes.

Reacting, a Senior Technical Assistant on Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Louis Odion congratulated the aspirant on Edo APC primary victory

He said: “With his victory, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has demonstrated a capacity to unite APC in Edo behind a common purpose.

“Doubtless, he will lead APC to victory in the governorship polls on September 19.”

Chairman of the Edo State APC Primary Election Committee, Governor Hope Uzodinma, declared Ize-Iyamu winner of the election after collating the results.

The results were turned in by the returning officers in the 18 local government areas of the state.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu has earlier cast his vote in the ongoing Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election primary on Monday.

Earlier, an unofficial report said that the High Court of Justice sitting in Benin City, Edo State, disqualified Ize-Iyamu from participating in the Edo governorship election.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu was seen granting interview to journalists during the primary election exercise.

Justice Aghamiojie of the Benin High Court had reportedly disqualified Pastor Ize-Iyamu on the grounds that he is not a registered member of APC.

The judge ruled that Pastor Ize-Iyamu is not a member of the All Progressives Congress hence could not vie under its platform.

The court held that the waiver given to him is null and void as he could not prove to the court that he actually did an online registration.

The judge had earlier given him one week to present evidence that he registered online with the party.

However, at the resumed court hearing, the governorship aspirant could not provide any evidence.
