JUST IN: Obaseki, Deputy take oath of office for second term

The executive governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu were today sworn in for a second term in office. 

Obaseki after taking oath of office promised the people of Edo State that he will pursue a massive reforms and diversify the state’s economy and also consolidate on the progress recorded in his first term in office.

During the inauguration ceremony, he credited his victory to almighty God and the indomitable will and determination of the great people of Edo State.

He said, “Earlier today, as my deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu and I were sworn-in for a second term in office, I committed to deepening reforms and diversifying the state’s economy, to consolidate on the progress recorded in our first term in office.

“The inauguration had in attendance, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Edobor Iyamu.

“My counterparts who honoured me with their presence were Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State and Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

“Other dignitaries in attendance included, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus; Vice Chairman, PDP South-South, Chief Dan Orbih; former Minister of Works, Mike Onolememe.

“Also present were, Speaker Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Marcus Onobun; Chief Judge of Edo State, Esther Edigin and the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, among others.

“During the inauguration ceremony, I credited my victory at the September 19 governorship election to the awesome power of God Almighty and the indomitable will and determination of the great people of Edo State.

“Affirming that we are, indeed, kith and kin with a common destiny, I urged all Edo people to stop dwelling on the past. It is now time to take our collective destinies in our own hands and commence the arduous task of Making Edo Great Again.

“I also assured the people that my administration will continue to provide value for their money (tax revenues) by utilizing it judiciously, transparently and with accountability, especially in view of existential challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“In conclusion, I thanked all our traditional leaders led by his Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin; our youths, civil servants, traders, women, professional bodies, artisans, among others, for their unalloyed commitment and loyalty.

“I also singled out for special appreciation, all Edo people in the Diaspora – in Nigeria and overseas. Finally, I thanked my family – the Ogbeide-Oyo Obaseki and Gbinigie families, for my victory, which is a vindication of the deep family values bequeathed on me.”
